Changing Demographics

To be sure, the Worthington School District is changing and has been changing for a long time. The Worthington School District has been changing right along side it. Our district is becoming more diverse, racially, economically and socially. For example:

Data Element

2007-2008 School Year

2015-2016 School Year

Economically Disadvantaged

Low English Proficiency

Students with a Disability

White, non-Hispanic (per ODE)

The key statistics are the first two Worthington has seen one of the highest percentage increase in Economically Disadvantaged students in Franklin County and our teachers have had to adapt to teaching in an environment where one out of every four students and their families have significant economic challenges. In addition, the 33% increase in students that come to us without a firm grasp of the English Language has required investment in many areas that were not required before. Our school district administration, our Principals and our Teachers understand these challenges and have responded with new programming including summer reading programs, specific professional development for teachers, bilingual support and parent outreach.

The mission of the Worthington School District is to empower a community of learners who will change the world. That empowerment extends to every single child that attends any one of our buildings and I will continue advocating for programs to accomplish just that.
